25 Days and counting!

Believe it or not, there are only 25 more days of sixth grade! It has been a wonderful year and I appreciate all those who have helped me grow and learn during my first year of teaching. Next week is a busy week, please make note of the following events:

Monday: Field Trip to Space Camp (leaving the school at 8:30, please be on time!)
Tuesday: Science CRT, section 1
Wednesday: Science CRT ,section 2

As we start our studies of Europe, your child has chosen a country to report on. This country report is due May 18th. Please encourage your child to work on his/her report every single day. There is a lot of research to be done (at home and school) and it is important to take this project little by little. Your child will be completing an ABC book, along with an oral report that will be presented in class on the week of May 18-22. Thank you for your support.

Brian and Rebecca

Talking to the class about the meaning of the flag

As most of you know, FM100 came to our class on Thursday February, 26th. It was a blast! The radio stations chooses one OUTSTANDING class per month to visit and have a pizza party with. It was a great experience! For those who listen to that station, you would know Brian and Rebecca. They came to our class (with a dozen pizzas!) and congratulated us for working hard on reading and doing great in school. It was a great learning experience for everyone, we talked about the meaning of the pledge of alligance and payed tribute to our flag. Then, they recorded our class reciting the pledge that will be posted in about a week on FM100.com. Check the website, where you will find our class posted and also those students who decided to recite the pledge alone will be aired on the radio in the near future! Congratulations to our whole class for working hard and striving for excellence!

Things are going great in the classroom. Right now, we are learning a lot of neat things....

Social Studies: Ancient Egypt
Science: Heat (*Solar Ovens), light, and sound
Reading: We are reading (as a class) "On My Honor"
Math: Fractions and Decimals
Spelling: We started a new program this week, but we are taking it nice and slow. You should see a new list of words on Thursday night. Study the words with your child because on Friday, I will be testing them on 10 of those words.

Back to school night is here! It is tomorrow- Thursday, September 11 at 7:00 pm. Please come, I want to meet each of you and want you to see some of the things your child has been working on over the past few weeks.

Monday, August 25, 2008

We survived the first day! I hope each of you are clear of what is going on with our class. I know that the first of the year is hectic, but we will make it through together. I sent home several pages of important information with your child today. Please review them, sign them, and return asap.

I want to remind you about the weekly reading logs. It is required that your child reads a minimun of 20 minutes per day. He/she will bring home a reading log every Monday, fill it out for the week, then return it the following Monday. Please help them accomplish this task, and remember, reading is a key to success.....I appreciate all your help! Thank you!!

Hello! This year we are excited to "dive into learning" and discover the many adventures sixth grade has to offer. We have many fun things planned for the year. Some things to look forward to are the weekly broadcasts that are created by the 6th graders, safety patrol, field trips, Valentine Dance, Friday activities, 6th grade Vs. faculty volleyball game, and of course a Shakespeare play in the Spring.

We will be studying all about space, microorganisms, ancient civilizations, geography, fractions, geometry, persuasive writing and so much more. We will be working to achieve the Presidential and National Fitness Award as well as participating in the school and district Science Fair.

I am very excited to get to know each of you. Remember to check the class blog for updates. So, here we go.... let's DIVE INTO LEARNING!
